An original painting of the town of Barga in Italy. Barga is the most important hilltop town in Garfagnana, in the north west of Tuscany in the province of Lucca, famous for its marvellous and varied landscape and its surroundings.
It is listed as of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy for its historical & artistic importance. It has several civic and religious buildings of local cultural heritage the two most important being the Teatro dei Differenti and Casa Pascoli. Both the buildings are related to the renowned Italian poet Giovanni Pascoli who considered Barga his adoptive town. He was buried in the city after his death in 1912, in the Chapel next to Casa Pascoli. This house – commonly referred to as Casa Pascoli in honour of the poet – is situated in Castelvecchio Garfagnana near Barga where he lived for about 17 years. The house is now a museum preserving some poet’s works, as well as his antique furnishings and decorations.
This piece of art is inspired by a photograph I took whilst walking in the Apennines.
