A little Italian sun to brighten your day
A year or two ago I stayed in a Trullo in Puglia in Italy. The grounds of the Trullo were extensive and planted with a host of exotic and beautiful plants and trees including a beautiful Pomegranate tree in front of the house. The tree demanded to be photographed and painted. I hope you like the result.
A Trullo (plural Trulli) is a conical, stone-roofed building unique to the Puglia region of Italy. If you are lucky enough to visit Puglia you should spend a day in Alberobello, a UNESCO world heritage site featuring the largest concentration of Trulli in Puglia. A Trullo typically consists of a whitewashed cylindrical wall made up of circles of grey stone that are held in place by lateral opposition and gravity without the use of mortar that rise to a pinnacle. Probably originating from local Stone Age culture, Trulli are now protected by Italian law as national monuments.
