The Story Behind the Painting

The inspiration, memories and moments behind my artwork

Where It All Began

Every painting begins somewhere. Sometimes it is a place I have visited, a moment that has stayed in my memory, or simply something that catches my eye and sparks an idea.

For me, painting is a way of capturing those moments and expressing how I see the world around me. In this journal, I would like to share a little more about the thoughts, inspiration and creative process behind my work.

Every painting has its own journey, and I hope you enjoy discovering a little of mine.

Finding Inspiration

Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. It might be the changing light across a landscape, the colours of the countryside, an interesting texture or the atmosphere of somewhere I have visited. I am always noticing little details around me – colours, shapes, patterns and the way light changes throughout the day. Sometimes an idea develops quite quickly, while other times it takes a little longer to find its way onto the canvas. These are often the moments that stay with me and eventually become the starting point for a new painting..

From First Brushstrokes to Finished Painting

Bringing an idea to life on canvas is always an adventure. I love exploring different colours, textures and techniques, gradually building up the layers until the painting begins to take on a life of its own.

The Finished Work

After all the ideas, experiments and brushstrokes, it’s always a special moment when a painting finally feels complete. Here is the finished work, bringing together the colours, textures and inspiration that started the journey.

I am a British contemporary fine artist creating powerful acrylic paintings inspired by the interaction of light, colour, and perspective in natural and urban landscapes. I am fascinated by nature enjoying woodland, fell and moorland walking which provide a wealth of inspiration for my painting. For me having the time to stop, look and fully appreciate all the wonders of nature –the wildlife, trees and flowers and the interaction of colours and light – is a remarkable gift. I regularly visit family in Italy and Australia both beautiful countries full of artistic inspiration – some of the most spectacular sunsets, landscapes, and seascapes you will see anywhere in the world. My primary medium is acrylics, and I am a member of the Altrincham Society of Artists and the Visual Artists Association. I sign my artwork Iannello, my mother’s maiden name in her memory.
